Laszlo and I enjoyed Kay's friendship for some 25 years. Our shared interest was coverlets.
Kay was a top-notch researcher, unquestionably one of the most well respected figures in the field of coverlet study. She travelled the countryside for many years, seeking out, carefully photographing and documenting and sometimes collecting the coverlets she found.
Portions of her collection were featured in the books, "And So To Sleep," a catalog of the 1999 exhibition at The American Textile History Museum in Lowell, MA, and "American Jacquard Coverlets," a 1997 exhibition at Salisbury State University, MD. She made major contributions to several other important books as well.
Her enthusiasm was contagious, her knowledge was boundless, and -- most notably -- her willingness to share both was unparalleled.
She generously contributed many important materials to the collections and archives of The National Museum of the American Coverlet in Bedford, PA.
Some of her collection can also be seen at The American Textile History Museum in Lowell, MA.
Perhaps more importantly than all that, Kay was a thoroughly good lady. We enjoyed every minute we ever had with her; and we always wished we lived closer together, to allow for more.
We miss her terribly.
Dave, you are in our thoughts and hearts at this difficult time. We are truly grateful for the honor of knowing you both.
