Carla E. Brandenberger's Obituary
Carla E. Brandenberger age 64,of Milton,DE, passed away on Friday, March 26, 2010 at, Beebe Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born in Waynesboro,PA, on February 15, 1946, daughter of the late Merle C. and Minnie Catherine Kretzer Eigenbrode, with whom she shared the same birthday.
She grew up in Waynesboro, PA where she graduated from Waynesboro High School. She attended Bridgewater College for a year and transferred to Elizabethtown College where she met her husband of 41 years, Dane A. Brandenberger, "Andy". She received a BS ED in Elementary Education from Elizabethtown. Later she received an MS ED in Teaching of Reading from Shippensburg State College. Additional graduate work was completed at the University of Delaware. During her career she taught in the Waynesboro Area School District in PA, taught elementary school in the former Claymont School District, High School Special Education in the New Castle County Votech School District, Special Education in the Milford School District, and in the latter part of her career she taught in the Cape Henlopen School District as a reading specialist. Prior to her retirement in August of 2005, she served as Assistant Principal at H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, Milton, DE. Mrs. Brandenberger was a former member of the Eastern Star in PA, member of Cancer in Common and the Lewes Historical Society. She was the Co-founder of A Pink Affair to Remember charity event which raised substantial contributions for families touched by cancer. Sewing, knitting, reading and sitting on beach were many of her interests, but most of all her love and devotion was with her new grandson Dane. In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Shannan Brandenberger of Lewes, Cary Brandenberger Riches and husband Mike and their son Dane, all of Wilmington, DE, sister Twila Flohr and husband Bill of Waynesboro PA and their two daughters Tessey and Abigail. Also surviving are her mother-in-law Marge Brandenberger, sister-in-law Gale McAllister and her husband Gordon, nieces Katie Brower and Wendy Carpenter and nephew Tim McAllister. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday April 1, 2010 at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services. Friends may also call on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions are suggested to be sent to Epworth United Methodist Church, C/O Cancer in Common, 19825 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
