August John Daesener's Obituary
August John Daesener, 73, of Bridgeville, DE, formerly of Freehold Borough, NJ, was born in Neptune, NJ and attended Freehold Borough Schools, Lawrenceville Prep School both in New Jersey and Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN where he earned a BA degree in Economics and Political Science. Mr. Daesener returned home to work at the family owned American Hotel. Later he became an owner and Vice President of the Hawthorne Sommerfield in Freehold, NJ, one the largest U.S. manufacturers and distributors of Christmas cards. Mr. Daesener, his brother, Richard, and other partners then built the Freehold Sheraton Gardens Hotel.
Always a lover of sports, Mr. Daesener began the Freehold Regional High School sport awards which honored the best female and male scholar/athletes from area regional high schools. Mr. Daesener also owned race horses, was a notable piano player, opera buff and bridge player. He was fond of saying, “I coached the kids, I did their sweet sixteen and weddings, and I helped take care of the parents" at Hudson Manor where he was one of the original board members.
Mr. Daesener is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Janet Daesener; nine children: August, Richard, Samantha, Sheri, Michelle, Charles, Jon, William and Robert; a brother, Richard and his wife Susan; a brother-in-law, Dr. Lawrence Oufiero and his wife Judy; and thirteen grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 5:00 PM, Parsell Funeral Home & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE 19933, where friends may visit from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
