Family was the cornerstone of Arthur’s life, and he was the beloved captain of his crew. He embraced his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, coach and friend. He is survived by his 3 children, Carolyn Williams (Vincent), Arthur Holgerson, Jr. (Erin), and Christopher Holgerson (Stephanie); his sister Jean Holgerson (Jimmy) his brother Peter (Gloria); and his 8 cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Jaxson, Alex, Jessica, Lorelei, Vivienne, and Eiven. Arthur’s early years were spent in Bethpage, NY where he graduated from Bethpage High School. He played football and wrestling and enjoyed close friendships that lasted well over 75 years. His commitment to service was evident early on as he joined the US Army and served as an MP officer. It truly was a testament to his strong sense of duty and honor. Following his time in the military, Arthur built a life in the energy sector, working for the Long Island Lighting Company and KeySpan Energy. He met and married the love and light of his life, Patricia Ann Thompson and they resided in Holbrook, NY with their 3 children for over 30 years. Arthur and Patricia retired to the Oyster Rocks community in Milton, DE where they met wonderful friends and neighbors. They were married for over 50 years until she passed away with Arthur at her side. They were both beloved figures in their community.
Arthur was a true outdoorsman at heart, with a lifelong passion for boating and fishing with friends and family. He was often found on the docks of Indian River Marina, cleaning and working on his boat, Hogie, a 31’ Bertram. If you know, you know. As a founding member of the First State Pickleball Club and one of the “Dirty Dozen” he brought both a competitive spirit and camaraderie to the game. He traveled to compete in the Senior Olympics and also the US State games. He also held a lifelong passion for fast performance cars and frequently reminisced about the drag racing days of his youth.
