Andrea C. Smith's Obituary
Andrea C. Smith, age 70 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, formerly of Leesburg, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at her residence. She was born on Thursday, August 5, 1948 in McKeesport, PA, daughter of the late Andrew and Irene Chomo.
After graduating from Clairton High School and McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing, Andrea joined the Army Nurse Corp and was stationed at the military field hospital in Danang, Vietnam. She then pursued her nursing career in multiple settings, including the Graydon Manor Children’s Center in Leesburg, VA, where she met her husband Rob. Taking a break from nursing, Andrea was accepted into the AT&T training program, and began a 20 year high-tech career as a phone systems account manager with AT&T, Cincinnati Bell (CBIS), and several independent telecommunications firms. After the tech bubble burst in 2000 she returned to the medical field and became a certified hospice nurse, working in Northern Virginia with Capital Hospice and Heartland Hospice. She capped her career as Case Manager at Inova Fairfax Hospital’s level I trauma unit. Having spent many years visiting the Dewey/Rehoboth area, the Smith’s, with their dog Admiral, retired to the area full time in 2015. Wanting to stay involved, and using her unique sense of style, she enjoyed part-time work at her friend’s In2Soles shoe store. In retirement she also enjoyed socializing with family and friends, reading, and partaking of the local live music scene. Being on the dance floor was a favorite location.
In addition to her parents, Andrea was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Bossi. She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Rob; and her two nieces: Allison Graves of Gainesville, VA and Collette Brosky of Madeira Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Andrea’s memory to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, DE chapter, 600 South Street New Castle, DE 19720 or by visiting their website at or to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Sussex County, 1315 Mt.
