William L. Williams' Obituary
William "Bill- Williams age 85 of Lewes died peacefully on December 14, 2009 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. He was the son of John E. and Myrtle Evans Williams of Rehoboth Beach. Bill was born in Carlisle, PA on March 16, 1924. As a child, he moved with his family to Rehoboth Beach. He graduated from Rehoboth High School in 1943 in a graduating class of six. He then joined the U. S. Army 82' Airborne where he served with it and the 517th Parachute Infantry in Europe during WWII. After returning from the war he attended Goldey Beacom College. He opened Williams Insurance Agency in 1947. In 1977 he retired after selling the business which still bears his name. Bill was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club. He was past president of both the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department and Rehoboth Beach Chamber of Commerce. He was also a founding member of the Three Coins Club of Rehoboth Beach. His interests included sailing, horseback riding and painting local scenes on driftwood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Jack and sisters Kitty Bookhammer and Janice Hendrix. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years Mary Catharine (Kitty) Williams; daughter Susan Byrd and her husband Larry; son Jeff and his wife Nancy; grandchildren Eileen, John, Nathan, Robin, and Rebecca and great granddaughter, Sydney.
Services will be private. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date.
