William Lee Oakes Sr.
William Lee Oakes Sr., 81, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, in Lewes. He was born on November 11, 1943, in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Harry Langford Oakes and Edna May (Hopkins) Oakes.
William dedicated many years of service as a lineman at Chrysler, a job he performed with diligence and pride.
An avid fisherman, William found solace and delight in the tranquility of the water. He will be remembered as a man who cast a wide net of love and friendship, leaving an impression on all who knew him.
Bill's life was enriched by his companion of 26 years, Patricia Meade, and filled with joy by his children, William L. Oakes Jr. (Candyce), Tammy Lee Hopkins (Adam), and Tracy Poppit (Gino). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom will deeply miss his warmth and generous spirit. He is also survived and will be missed by his sisters, Shirley McGinley (John), Judy Franciscus (Richard), Patricia Palmer (Thomas), and Kathleen Copinger (Bryan).
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his brothers, Harry Langford Oakes Jr., Robert B. Oakes (Gaye), and Donald J. Oakes (Faye).
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Oakes will be held later this summer.
