William Arnold Morehouse's Obituary
William A. Morehouse, affectionately known as “Billy,” of Milton, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday morning, November 2, 2024. He was born on November 11, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to James and Emelia (Jensen) Morehouse. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his older brothers, James A. Morehouse and Charles A. Morehouse.
A graduate of Fort Hamilton High School in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Billy completed his studies in 1956 and soon after joined the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the USS Randolph as an aviation electronics technician. After an honorable discharge, he embarked on a fulfilling career with the IBM Corporation in New York City, a journey that would span five decades and take him across various roles and states.
In Brooklyn, Billy was an esteemed member of the Aurora-Day Star Lodge #756, F&A Masons, and in 1966 he had the honor of serving as Master of the Lodge.
On November 27, 1965, he married Kathleen McAllister Morehouse, “the girl next door,” with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Together, they raised four children: Keith, Kathleen, Jill, and William.
Throughout his distinguished 49-year career at IBM, Billy rose from technician to instructor, field manager, and eventually branch manager, holding positions in Washington, D.C., Indiana, New York, and New Jersey. Following his retirement, he and Kathy moved to Delaware, where they added to their wide circle of dear friends.
Billy is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy, and his children, Kathleen, Jill (Gary), and Billy. He was predeceased by his cherished son, Keith (Elisa), in 2021. His legacy lives on through his five treasured grandchildren: Kaitlan and William Morehouse, Erin Andrews, and Ian and Ryan Nicol, who will fondly remember Grandpa’s ever-present “dad jokes.” Also missing him deeply are his four loving sisters-in-law, who considered him a true brother: Rita O’Shea, Margaret Ecker (Bob), Maureen McAllister, and Patricia McAllister-Williams (Kevin), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Billy will be remembered for his kindness, patience, and quiet intelligence. To many, he was the “go-to guy” for advice, guidance, and steady support, especially when it came to troubleshooting the latest “computer bug.” His life exemplified warmth and wisdom, and his memory will forever fill hearts with comfort.
There will be a memorial service at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, DE 19958 on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 3:00 PM. Friends and family may visit beginning at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice in Billy’s honor.
Memories of Billy’s life will continue to fill minds, warm hearts, and offer solace to all who loved him.
