William George Meyer's Obituary
William G. (Bill) Meyer died peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024 at the age of 77 at Beebe Hospital from complications with scleroderma, with his wife Maryann holding his hand. It would have been his mother’s 100th birthday.
Born in Fulton, NY, to Jeremiah G. (Jerry) and Mary Margaret (Peggy) Meyer, Bill was the oldest of seven children. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served two years overseas in Okinawa as a radio engineer. After being honorably discharged in 1969, he found a job with AT&T where he stayed for 39 years until his retirement. His work brought him to New Jersey in 1978 where he later met his wife Maryann, to whom he was happily married for just short of 40 years. In 2011, he retired to Milton, DE where he loved to host visitors and sit by the ocean with Maryann. Bill loved to travel, especially on the seas, and he particularly enjoyed a good meal with friends and family. He became a treasured member of the local community who provided him enormous support throughout his illness.
Bill was a beloved stepfather to Ralph Perrella (Kelley) of Queens, NY; Dawn Grochowiak of Quakertown, PA; and Michael Perrella of Jersey City, NJ; and proud grandfather to Gregory, Henry, and Corinn Grochwiak, and Lucy Perrella. Bill is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Thomas Meyer. He is survived by siblings Joseph Meyer (Joann) of Little Rock, AR; Gerald Meyer, Mary Cooper (Jack), Patricia Busch (Paul) of Fulton, NY; and Robert Meyer (Cathy), of Houston, TX.
Funeral arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes with a mass to be held Tuesday, June 11 at St. Edmond’s RC Church, Rehoboth, beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro.
