William Ryland Mattern IV's Obituary
William “Bill” Ryland Mattern, IV, age 71, of Selbyville, DE, formerly of Dundalk, MD, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, November 18, 2022. He was born January 23, 1951, in Baltimore, MD, son of the late, William and Mildred (Igou) Mattern, Sr.
Born and raised in Maryland, Bill was a graduate of Dundalk High School and proudly served in the Maryland National Guard. Within a few years of graduating, on September 2, 1972, Bill married the love of his life, Linda S. Bonitz, and the two would spend the next 50 years creating many memories and raising a beautiful family. Bill loved driving the open road and enjoyed a lengthy career with a local beer distributor. Bill made many friends along his route.
Bill found enjoyment in simple pleasures. He loved cars and motorcycles, football, and baseball. Do-It-Yourself projects gave him great satisfaction and he was always working on something. Family meant everything to Bill, and he treasured the time spent with them. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Terrence Mattern. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty years, Linda S. Mattern of Selbyville, DE; his sons, Kevin Mattern of Dundalk, MD, Michael Mattern (Kristen) of San Diego, CA; his daughter, Nikki LaMonte (Michael) of Rehoboth Beach, DE; his grandchildren: Michayla and Yzabella Mattern of Dundalk, MD, Brennan and Hayden Mattern of San Diego, CA, Addison LaMonte of Rehoboth Beach, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2022, 4:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may call beginning at 2:00 PM.
