William Bruce Macdonald's Obituary
William Bruce Macdonald, age 67 of Lewes, DE and formerly a resident of Brookfield, CT for 35 years, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He was born on May 2, 1956, in Bronxville, NY, son of the late William J. and Marjorie A. (Olmen) Macdonald.
Bruce was a graduate of Pleasantville High School in NY. After graduation, he attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, MA. Bruce married his high school sweetheart, Diane (Manzo) Macdonald in 1979 and the two spent many beautiful years together, raising their family. He enjoyed a lengthy career in information technology, a job he found immensely rewarding, working for such companies as Bristol Myers, Perot Systems, Service America, Lockheed Martin, and Affiliated Computer Services.
Bruce enjoyed being involved in his local community and he volunteered his time to the service of others. In Brookfield, CT he was a member of the Board of Education, a position that brought him great joy, and later he became a member of the Town of Brookfield's planning commission.
Bruce was a wine connoisseur and loved trivia; he was a Jeopardy fan and had a soft spot for dachshunds. Bruce had a special love for learning, and his constant curiosity never waned. He loved to engage in political discussions and debate social/ controversial issues. Bruce treasured time spent with his family and friends, above all. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Bruce was loved by many, and his presence will be forever missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Henry Stolte. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Macdonald of Lewes, DE; his children: Daniel Macdonald, David Macdonald, and Kirstie Campbell as well as his son-in-law, Blake Campbell; his grandson, Graham Campbell; his sister, Barbara Detwiler and family; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs: Sam and Rosie.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
