William "Bill" John Robb's Obituary
William John Robb, Jr., affectionately known as “Bill”, of Georgetown, DE, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE, at the age of 89. Mr. Robb was born in Ocean View, DE, on December 1, 1923, son of the late William John, Sr. and Flora (Carey) Robb.
Mr. Robb, born and raised in Ocean View, attended grade school here through graduation from Lord Baltimore High School. Upon graduation from Lord Baltimore, Mr. Robb joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country during WWII. In 1946, Mr. Robb was sent to the Philippines to further serve his military duties in the US Embassy. That same year, while serving in the Philippines, Mr. Robb met the love of his life, “Meding”, who soon after became his loving wife. Mr. Robb shortly departed from the Philippines with his new wife, back to Georgetown, to start a new life and family together.
Mr. Robb then began work as a Warden at the Georgetown Prison. After working several years with the prison, Mr. Robb ventured into a management position with Acme meat department for twenty-five plus years. He also created time within his busy work schedule, dedicated to driving grade school buses for the students of St. Edmonds Catholic School.
Mr. Robb was an active member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Georgetown VFW. He also was a very influential parishioner and founding member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, Georgetown, DE.
Mr. Robb’s cherished hobbies stemmed from the boating and fishing community in Lewes, DE. He was well known for passing down his fishing and boating techniques to his family and especially his grandkids, in the hope of recreating the joy it brought to him each and every day. Mr. Robb was also an avid dog lover, sharing a special bond with his energetic terrier mix, “Meck”. A loving father and grandfather, Mr. Robb’s passion for hard work and play will always be remembered by his loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Robb was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Remedios “Meding” Robb, in March of this year; his daughter, Tracey Lynn Robb in 1982; and his two sisters, Lillian Oliphant and Mildred Carey. He is survived by his three sons: David Robb and his wife Elaine of El Dorado Hills, CA, William Robb and his wife Ann of Springfield, VA, and Jeffrey Robb and his wife Lana of Millsboro, DE; his six grandchildren: Amanda, Brendan, Billy, Alex, John, and Teena; and his step brother, Herbert Carey of Bethany Beach, DE.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 202 Edward Street, Georgetown, DE, where friends may visit at the church beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, Georgetown, DE.
