William B. Holman's Obituary
William B. Holman, age 91, of Lewes, DE, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. Mr. Holman was born May 13, 1918 in Mobridge, SD, son of the late Edwin C. and Varena (Brenner) Holman.
Mr. Holman moved to Ottumwa, IA where he graduated from high school and later attended the Iowa Success School, Parsons College, George Washington University and the Cockran Art Gallery. Bill retired from the United States Government after 32 years in the field of financial management and moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1972. During his years n Washington, DC, he was active in teaching and calling square dances and assisting foreign exchange students with housing in his home. He traveled to Europe and to South America.
Bill's interests were fishing, skiing, art work, flower arranging, singing, gardening, collecting antique glass, playing the organ, cooking and writing poetry. He also authored a book, "Dear Teacher" and a cook book.
In Rehoboth Beach he was President of many organizations: Beachfield Homeowners Association, Meals on Wheels of Lewes and Rehoboth, AARP Chapter 3543, National Assn. of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1690, and NARFE State Federation of Chapters. He was Treasurer of the Rehoboth Art League and of its outdoor Fine Arts Show for many years. He was a member of the Lewes Mens' Chorus. He was honored with the Coast Press Person of the Year 2000 award.
A service will be announced in the Fall. Interment will be in Mobridge, SD. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes (www.parsellfuneralhomes.com).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
