William W. Hill III, Retired Technical Manager
William W. Hill III of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware died on December 14, 2016 at the age of 89. He was the son of the late William W. Hill Jr. and Marion Blanchard Hill who last resided in West Chester, PA.
Bill graduated from the West Chester High School and the Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Electrical Engineering. At Penn State he played Varsity baseball, was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa social fraternity and elected to Eta Kappa Nu, the Electrical Engineering honorary fraternity.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy as a Radio Technician and thereafter served in the Naval Reserve for 5 years.
Bill spent his entire professional career with the Westinghouse Defense and Space Systems Center at Baltimore, Maryland, retiring in 1992 after 42 years of service. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Maryland.
In private life he was active in civic affairs as a PTA president, assistant Scoutmaster, Little League baseball coach and President/Board Member of the local Homeowner's Association at Rehoboth Beach. He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and especially enjoyed playing golf and bridge there. In 2004 he realized every golfer's dream-- a hole-in-one!
Bill was preceded in death in 2014 by his loving wife, Esther, after 62 years of marriage and by three sisters. He is survived by two sons, William W. Hill IV and Steven D. Hill (Denise) both of Severna Park, MD; three grandchildren: Carrie Ann Lewis (Ben), William W. Hill V and Douglas F. Hill; and great-grandsons Jack William Lewis and Samuel Thomas Lewis; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment will be private at the Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
