William Roy Elder's Obituary
It was the top of the ninth, and Bill was sure the Phillies had secured the win. With his family by his side, William R. Elder passed on August 6, 2011, after a brief stay at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Bill lived 83 years mostly in Claymont, but later moved to Lewes. He was an Army veteran, and retired from the Claymont post office.
Bill loved his sports, playing golf, along with many years of bowling. He was the Secretary and Treasurer of the Community league for 44 years at Holiday and First State Lanes.
Born to Roy and Cora Elder on May 1, 1928, he was surrounded by his loving wife of 58 years, Rebecca, and daughters Gail Elder White, Salisbury NC and Karen Haney of Lewes.
Family members include a brother James Elder, sisters Louise Pini, Cora Smith, and Carol O'Hanlon.
Grandchildren Matt and Stacey White, Joseph W. Haney, Great grandson Joseph John Haney along with Son-in-Laws Andrew White and Joseph M. Haney. Many nieces and nephews knew him as that “quiet Uncle Bill.”
Family and friends may call on Tuesday August 9, 2011 from 6 PM to 8 PM. at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. A short eulogy and remembrance will be held at the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriots Way, Millsboro, De on Wednesday, August 10 at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, De 19963
