William Francis Cassot's Obituary
William Francis Cassot, 76, passed peacefully from this world on May 23, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife, family, and friends.
Bill was born on April 30, 1941 as the eldest child of Francis and Adelaide Cassot. He graduated from Massapequa High School, Long Island, New York in 1959 where he excelled in causing mischief and in playing Lacrosse. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1959 where he was always challenging the status quo. For 23 years he helped defend this country as a jet mechanic, missile man and manpower specialist before retiring with three Meritorious Service Medals and the highest enlisted rank in the Air Force, Chief Master Sergeant. While serving his country and raising his family, he completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees and even became a college instructor.
After retiring from active military service, he continued to serve his country in Civil Service for another 15 years before finally retiring from the Pentagon to Delaware where he enjoyed life on his boat and the beach. He filled the world with his brilliantly sarcastic wit and was always ready to help a friend or anyone in need. He taught his children to love this country and to serve it, but to never be subservient to its leadership.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by two of his sons, Scot and Eric. He is survived by his brothers: Ed, Paul and Phillip; his sister Mary; his son Robert; his daughter Cheryl; and four grandchildren: Caitlin, Madeline, Ryan, and Lauren. He is also survived by his beloved and cherished wife of 55 years, Catherine, with whom he found profound happiness and comfort. The world was better for his having lived in it, and it is sadder for his passing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 3 at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE 19958.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Bill’s name to Delaware Hospice through its website: www.delawarehospice.org.
