William George Cahill's Obituary
William George “Bill” Cahill, 89, passed away peacefully at home on Memorial Day 2026.
Born on July 5, 1936, in Plainfield, New Jersey, Bill grew up in Raritan and attended Somerville High School in Somerville, New Jersey. After serving honorably in the National Guard, he joined the United States Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957.
Bill dedicated more than 40 years of service to Public Service Electric & Gas Company before retiring. In 2001, he returned to work with PSE&G on a part-time basis, traveling to Peru to teach linemen specialized “live line” electrical techniques for five years.
A talented photographer, Bill had a special gift for capturing the beauty of human interest scenes, landscapes, and especially wildlife. His photographs reflected both his artistic eye and his appreciation for the world around him.
Bill was predeceased by his son, Thomas Cahill.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Cahill of Lewes, Delaware; his son, William T. Cahill of Raritan, New Jersey; his sister, Charlene Schieferstein of Harrison, Maine; his brother, George Cahill, and sister-in-law Molly Morell of Lake Oswego, Oregon; his stepson, John Humphrey, and daughter-in-law Marilyn Harmon, along with granddaughters Josette and Charlotte Humphrey of New Buffalo, Michigan; his stepson, Patrick Humphrey of Eagle Rock, Missouri; his brother-in-law, Robert Montgomery of Rochester, New York; and his nephew, John Schieferstein of Cape Vincent, New York.
Bill will be remembered for his dedication to family, his years of service, his adventurous spirit, and the beauty he captured through his photography. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
