I worked for Bill in the Coordinated Examination Branch in Pittsburgh. His stories and anecdotes helped this newlywed make it through not only her year at the IRS but my first year of marriage! I had the chance to catch up over dinner several years ago and he joked how mad he was that I left as his secretary! LOL He was an amazing man and I was sorry to find out he had passed. Condolences to Billy, Michelle and the legacy family he and Mary have left. RIP William E. Barrett (I typed that name many, many times!)

I worked with Bill for many years. My cubicle was just outside of his office. We often chatted about his children. He glowed with pride. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. I enjoyed his sense of humor and his wisdom. He will be missed.

I met Bill many years ago…..he was a new IRS revenue agent in the Georgetown, DE office and I was the group’s secretary…….Bill was kind, sincere and had a great sense of humor. One Christmas I asked him what he was getting Mary for Christmas. He said a vacuum cleaner. I told him he had to get her something personal as well……you don’t give your young wife only a vacuum for Christmas! He got her some perfume. Christmas came and she opened her presents. She asked why he got her the perfume because she didn’t ask for it….he told her I had shamed him into getting it for her……she thanked me! He was the last of the original crew……my sincerest sympathy to the family❣️️

I was fortunate to have thousands of conversations with Bill. We talked about everything from sports to accounting to lawn care to his frustrations with technology.

Regardless of the seriousness, we shared a laugh every time. Those conversations revealed a profound pride in all his grandchildren. No matter how heavy his responsibilities weighed on him, asking Bill about his grandchildren would always brighten his mood.

For Billy and Michelle, Bill revealed not only pride, but also great respect.

I am so sorry for the loss every member of his family must feel.
