Willard Peters' Obituary
Willard F. "Pete" Peters, age 87, of Lewes, DE, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE after a prolonged battle against kidney failure. Born November 2, 1919 in Hillcrest, DE, he then moved with his family to both Ogden and Boothwyn, PA as a child. He graduated form Eddystone High School in 1937 and went to work as an accountant. He joined the US Army on May 5, 1942 and fought in World War II as a 1st Lieutenant with the 179th Infantry-45th Division in Europe and Africa. He received the Purple heart and Silver Star.
After his honorable discharge on November 16th, 1945, he settled down with his wife, Ruth Peters in Wilmington, DE. He worked with Sun Oil Company as a heating and air conditioning technician until his retirement in 1977. He and his wife moved from their home in Indian Field to Long Neck, DE in 1978 where he enjoyed such hobbies as painting, woodcarving and endearing himself to residents of the area. After a heart attack in 2003, he and his wife moved to Lewes, DE to be closer to their family and the local medical care facilities.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth (Ravilious) Peters; his son Craig Peters of upstate NY, his grandson Ryan Peters of Lewes, DE; his grandson Chris Peters of Newark, DE, and his granddaughter Paula Rogan of Baltimore, MD. In recent years, he was always happiest when talking about or spending time with his great grandchildren, Bailey Peters of newark, DE Zoe Peters of Lewes, DE, and Brennan Rogan of Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Peters will be interred following a private ceremony at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Delaware Kidney Fund, Inc.,1100 Lovering Avenue, Suite 10B, Wilmington, DE 19806.
