William Lewis Jr.'s Obituary
William (Bill) Lewis, Jr., age 87 of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, his loving wife of 66 years by his side.
Bill graduated from Eddystone High School, Eddystone, PA in 1949; where he was a gifted athlete. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955; a Korean War veteran. He worked as a pipe fitter at DuPont Chestnut Run in Wilmington, DE for 35 years. Bill was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, The Elks and The American Legion.
Bill first and foremost was a follower of Jesus. He was a simple, humorous, yet humble man, who enjoyed more than ever spending time with his family. One of his greatest joys in life was being "Pop Pop" to his 7 grandchildren. He often spoke of how grateful he felt that the Lord allowed him to live long enough to see his grandchildren graduate from college and knowing that one of his grandsons was to be married soon, brought him great joy. He was the most avid and passionate Eagles' fan and rooted for the other Philadelphia teams throughout the years. His hobbies included fishing, fishing and fishing; especially with his sons! He was an amazing dart player and enjoyed spending time over the years at the senior centers in which they were members in both DE and FL. He loved to dance, play board games and cards, horseshoes, and working outdoors. He was quite the handyman and enjoyed tinkering around in his garage. He’d do anything for anyone if someone needed help. He would give of his time, advice, finances, prayer, or whatever was needed. Bill had many friends over the years; many of whom he considered family. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Louise (Weaver) Lewis of Lewes, DE; his 3 sons: INF 1SGT William Lewis, (USA, Retired) of Rockledge, FL, Dale (DeAnne) Lewis of Bristow, VA, and Brian (Kimberly) Lewis of Wilmington, DE; his 7 grandchildren: William & Nathaniel Lewis of Orlando, FL, Brian Lewis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Kristina Lewis of Wilmington, DE, Emma Lewis of NYC, Wesley Lewis of San Diego, CA, and Brianna Lewis of Cornwall, NY. He is also survived by his loving daughter-n-laws: Denise Lewis of Maitland, FL and Grace Lewis of Cornwall, NY.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Lewis, Sr.; his mother Mary (Lilly) Lewis; his brother Thomas Green; and his sisters: Mildred (Green) Webb and Doris (Lewis) Rhoades.
The family is thankful for the nurses and doctors at the Tunnell Cancer Center and Beebe Hospital, Lewes, DE who cared for Bill in his final days.
A Committal Service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 1:00 PM, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966. A luncheon is to follow at the clubhouse in Angola by the Bay, Lewes, DE for family and friends.
