Wayne George Weimer passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, in Lewes, Delaware, at the age of 83. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 22, 1942, to the late Raymond George Weimer and Margaret Lillian (Walters) Weimer.
Wayne and his family moved from Philadelphia to Newark, Delaware, in 1953. He attended and was a graduate of Newark High School, class of 1960, and later graduated with a BA degree from the University of Delaware. Wayne retired after a 30-year career working as a Service Specialist for the John M. Clayton Hall Conferences and Centers, University of Delaware.
Wayne enjoyed many hobbies during his lifetime. He was an avid fisherman developing his interest at an early age when fishing with his father in Ocean City, N.J. during family vacations. Wayne enjoyed gardening and kept his yard in immaculate condition. He developed an interest in his family history and discovered he had at least four Patriots who fought in the Revolutionary War. Wayne was an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). He enjoyed sports, participating in local baseball teams when young. Wayne was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles Football Team and the Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Team. Wayne was also a lifelong avid fan of rock and roll music of the 1950's and made frequent trips to Dick Clark's American Bandstand in Philadelphia, where he met many legendary 1950's rock and roll recording artists.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 24 years, Diana Stamatoff Cohen of Lewes, DE; two stepsons, Robert T. Cohen of Hyannis, MA, and Mark Stephen Cohen (Heather) of Mashpee, MA; sister, Susan Weimer Jaquette (John) of Ithaca, N.Y, and sister-in-law Janice B. Jochen (Ed) of Newark, DE. He is also survived by three nieces, Anne Jochen, Nancy S. Davenport (Darin) and Janice S. Burian (Phil); five nephews, J. Scott Jaquette (Catherine); Brian A. Jaquette (Brandy); Michael Jochen (Alison); John Edward Jochen, and Matthew Stamatoff (Alejandia); ten grand-nephews and two grandnieces.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his stepson, David Matthew Cohen in 2009.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE 19958, where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow in Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the University of Delaware Scholarship Fund or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
