Warren "Jay" Baird's Obituary
Warren “Jay” Baird, Jr., age 79 of Lewes, DE, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at his home. He was born on January 31, 1943, in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Warren J. "Bud" Baird, Sr. and Lydia H. Baird.
Jay graduated from P.S. duPont High School in Wilmington in 1961 and from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1965. In June 1966 he married Ann Robinson Baird, and they made their home in Centreville, MD for 42 years.
Jay was a lifelong educator, spending much of his career at Queen Anne's County High School, where he taught physical education and was the long-time soccer coach. Throughout his life, he was a camper, counselor, assistant camp director, and advisory committee member at Camp Pecometh. Jay was a member of the Centreville United Methodist Church, where he was a supporter of the music ministry as the organist and member of the choir. He also served his community as a member of the Centreville Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his wife Ann in 2009. He is survived by his son, David W. Baird (JoAnn) of Milford, DE; his granddaughters: Libby and Abby; his sister, Shirley Hornyak (Steve) of Wilmington, DE; his sister-in-law, Susan Robinson of Cambridge, MD; and his brother-in-law Robert G. Robinson (Barbara) of Chesapeake, VA.
A memorial service is being scheduled for a later date.
