Walter J. Slavin's Obituary
Walter J. Slavin, of Rehoboth, age 87, died on October 3, 2008 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was born in Wilmington on September 21,1921, son of the late Francis and Mary Williams Slavin. At age 11, the family moved to Lorain, Ohio. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1940. After returning to Wilmington, he proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He served in the South Pacific, in the Phillipines and Okinawa.
After the war, he worked in the Wilmington area in sales, and retired from Delaware Importers in 1986. Walter was an avid sports fan throughout his life. He earned the nickname "Sport" from his father.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by brothers, Charles, Francis and Edward, and a sister, Elizabeth Barr. He is survived by a step-brother, John Hogan and his wife, Barbara, of Wilmington and several nieces and nephews, among whom are Paul Slavin and his wife, Eleanor, and Sister Ann Marie, OSF.
The family wishes to thank Walter's many friends in the Rehoboth area, for their kindness to Walter. A celebration of the Holy Eucharist will be held in his memory at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Street, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 8, 2008. Internment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Angola. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
