Walter A. Reynolds' Obituary
Walter A. Reynolds, Sr., “Capt. Walt” age 74, of Lewes, DE, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born on November 28, 1937 in Bear, DE, son of the late William S. Reynolds Sr. and Katherine R. (Ewing) Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds worked in the construction industry for many years at various places including Painter Sharp Construction and Edgell Construction both in Delaware. He also drove a bus route for 22 years for the Cape Henlopen School District. His main lifelong career, however, was as a Private Charter Boat Captain and Selfless Service to his community. He was a past member of the Lewes Lions Club and just two weeks prior to his death, he achieved his 50 Year Life Membership with the Lewes Fire Department. During his tenure with the Fire Department, he held various positions including: President, Assistant Chief and Fire Police Captain; he also received several awards ranging from dedication to service, to top responder and as Fire Police Emeritus. Mr. Reynolds also had a passion for hunting, fishing, telling stories, and even cutting a little rug. Most of all, he was most passionate about his family and everyone knew it. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and dear friend to many who will be sorely missed.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by his loving wife Lillian M. (Leppo) Reynolds; three sons: Walt Reynolds, Jr., Rodney Reynolds and his wife Cheryl, and Melvin Reynolds, all of Lewes, DE; one daughter, K. Wava Truitt and her husband Terry of Laurel, DE; one brother, William S. Reynolds and his wife Peggy of Lewes, DE; five grandchildren: Stephanie Saulsbury and her husband Justin, Brittanie Truitt, Craig Reynolds, Macy Reynolds, and Paige Reynolds; and two great-grandchildren: Nathan Saulsbury and Dalton Dukes.
Funeral Services with Fireman’s Honors will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE or to the Lewes Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., PO Box 225, Lewes, DE 19958.
