Walter Edgar Blaker's Obituary
Walter E. Blaker
Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather
Walter E. Blaker, 80, died peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his home in Lewes, Delaware on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024. He leaves behind his loving wife Daphne Carre Blaker. Also surviving are his son, Randy (Karyn) Blaker of Pitman, New Jersey, and daughter, Susanne (Ed) Williams of Great Falls, Virginia.
This summer Walt and Daphne celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He was able to enjoy his family including grandchildren, Alyssa (Andrew) Bonnarens of Oregon, Ed (Karly), Mike and Joey (Claire) Williams of Virginia, and Paige and Erik Blaker of Pitman, New Jersey. Three great-grandsons, Oliver, George, and Lee Bonnarens of Oregon also enjoyed the party.
Born Oct. 9, 1943, to the late Walter and Evelyn Blaker of Barnsboro, New Jersey, Walt grew up there with surviving sisters Elaine (Mel) Powell of Pitman and Janet (Lowell) Tolstedt of New Bern, North Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Walt worked at several DuPont sites including Carney’s Point and Chambers Works in New Jersey and Stine-Haskell (Newark) and Experimental Station (Wilmington) in Delaware. For many of his working years he also went to Temple University in Philadelphia at night and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Always a boat owner, when retired, Walt bought his ultimate boat for fishing and a Corvette for road trips. Key West was a favorite destination. His passion was driving but he tolerated short plane rides to Mexico, Belize, and various island nations in this hemisphere.
Scouring flea markets was one of Walt’s hobbies. He loved to rebuild or repurpose artifacts he found as well as design new projects.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Hwy, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Shepherd’s Office at 408 North Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE 19947, or the American Cancer Society at https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/campaign/Walter-E-Blaker
