Virginia M. Seidle's Obituary
Virginia Messmore Seidle, 100+, died on October 8, 2011, in her home in Rehoboth Beach, DE, following a long illness. Born June 23, 1911, in Masontown, PA, she completed high school at Winchester School, Pittsburgh, PA, in 1929 and was graduated from Hollins College, VA, in 1933 with an A.B. (Artium Baccalaureatus) degree in psychology. She then moved to Pittsburgh, PA, where she completed an advanced business course at Carnegie Institute of Technology and received B.S. degree in 1935. She worked briefly for the Hagans Company in Pittsburgh before marrying her late husband, Norman Robert Seidle, Jr., in 1936. She celebrated her 100th birthday this past June with 36 family and friends.
Longtime residents of NW Washington, DC, the Seidles were active members of All Saints Episcopal Church, Chevy Chase, MD, where Mrs. Seidle taught 8th grade Girls Sunday School, was an active member of St. Cecelia’s Guild, and President of the Women of the Church. In addition to raising two children with her husband, Mrs. Seidle was Vice President of the Chevy Chase Women’s Club, and a volunteer member of the American Red Cross. The Seidles retired to Rehoboth Beach, DE, in 1972. There they joined and became active members of All Saints Episcopal Church, Rehoboth Beach, and continued to participate actively in several volunteer activities, including helping set up, and then driving for, Meals on Wheels in the Rehoboth - Dewey area.
Mrs. Seidle is survived by her son, Norman Robert Seidle, III (Shirley), of Gaithersburg, MD; daughter, Florence Gene Wixson (Gerry) of Germantown, MD; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Norman R. Seidle in 1978 and her brother Isaac Lindsey Messmore.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 14, 12:00 Noon, at St. Georges Episcopal Chapel, 20322 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson, DE. Interment will follow at All Saints cemetery, near Angola. Visitation and viewing will be in the back of St. Georges Chapel beginning at 11:00 AM. A reception with lunch for everyone will be held in St. Georges Parish Hall following the burial.
