Violet G. Hill's Obituary
Violet G. Hill, 82, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2011, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes, DE. Violet was born June 25, 1928 and was a lifelong resident of Georgetown. She was the daughter of the late Linden and Bessie (Long) Givens.
A trained beautician, prior to having children and raising a family, Violet ran Vi’s Beauty Shop from her home. She was a 1946 graduate of Georgetown High School. Until her illness, she was a regular attendee of Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown and was recently recognized for having been a member there for seventy years. She had a great interest in sports and could always tell you the latest about her beloved Baltimore Orioles. Violet enjoyed her family and, no matter how she was doing or feeling, she always took the time to inquire about the health and welfare of others. She was a devoted mother, sister, and aunt to her large extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Hershel and by her daughter Sharon Lee Hill, who died in 1970. She is survived by her son Lee R. Hill, Jr, of Georgetown, who is also the son of the late Lee R. Hill, Sr. She is also survived by her five sisters and brothers: Eva (Givens) Melson and her husband Charles of Lewes, Russell L. Givens of Lewes, Grace (Givens) Tonge of Georgetown, Robert J. Givens and his wife Shirley of Rehoboth, and Maxine (Givens) Brasure of Millsboro. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her eleven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 14, 2011 at 2 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 North Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown, DE.
