Velma S. Shenton's Obituary
Velma S. Shenton, age 89, of Seaford, DE, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Seaford Center Nursing Home. She was born in Eldorado, MD, on February 4, 1925, daughter of the late Arthur Lee Seabrease and Lillie (Jackson) Bryan.
After meeting the love of her life, she and Philip H. Shenton relocated to Delaware in 1953 where they would establish a beautiful family together. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Shenton worked a dedicated 30 plus year career with DuPont in Seaford, retiring in 1985. Following retirement, she was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Seaford. She enjoyed yard work including mowing the lawn and taking care of her bountiful garden. Most of all, Mrs. Shenton enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the apples of her eyes. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shenton was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Philip, her son, Everette, her daughter, Marylou, her sister, Leona Winsor and her grandson, Kyle W. Ewing II. She is survived by her son, Richard E. Shenton of Bridgeville, DE; her two daughters: Evelyn S. Ewing of Bridgeville, DE, and Sylvia S. Hatfield and her significant other Roger Griffith, both of Bridgeville, DE; her two grandchildren: Shawn Hatfield and his wife Kristin of Georgetown, DE, and Kelly Ewing of Whangarei, New Zealand; her granddaughter in law, Michelle Ewing; and her eight great-grandchildren: Taylor, Tyler and Trey Hatfield, Brooke, Michaela and Noah Timmons, Dave and Jack Ellis.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, DE, with Eastern Star Services beginning at 10:50 AM. Friends may begin calling at the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Shenton's memory to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 1016 N. Walnut Street, Milford, DE 19963.
