Ursula Paula Shepherd's Obituary
Ursula Paula Shepherd, 72, of Bridgeville, DE died April 10th. She was born in Stuttgart, Germany on July 31, 1939. She was married to Thomas Rutledge Shepherd on March 4, 1966.
They raised their sons, the late Marcus Shepherd of Philadelphia, PA and Steven Shepherd of Crownsville, MD in the Rancocas Woods section of Mt. Laurel, NJ where after 34 years, Ursula and Thomas moved to Bridgeville in 2006.
A devout Christian, Ursula was actively involved with the choirs and small groups at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Holly, NJ and later, Crossroad Community Church of Georgetown, DE.
A dedicated wife and mother, she fostered a loving home instilling an appreciation for music and the arts in her husband and sons. A believer in the power of prayer, she also provided them a strong foundation of Christian faith. Continuing in her tender, mentoring ways, she passed the passion of music and God’s love onto her grandsons at an early age. Known for her sweet spirit and gentle care, she aided elderly neighbors, provided care for stray and abandoned cats, and often assisted in church events.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas; her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Erin and grandchildren, Sawyer and Brody of Crownsville, Maryland.
She is also survived by her loving family in Germany; Helmut and Leni Hirth, and their son Oliver of Stuttgart; Klaus and Agathe Knodel, of Isny; their daughters Ursula Knodel of Stuttgart and Claudia Kirchmann of Isny and their families; and Ester Treiber and her family of the Black Forrest.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, April 21st at 3:30 PM PM at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE. where friends may call one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Crossroad Community Church.
