Tracy Levy Jr.'s Obituary
Tracy (ABE) Levy Jr., 83, (W3DA) of Greenwood, DE, passed away at home with family by his side on April 9, 2025. He was born on June 21, 1941, in Jesup, Georgia, to the late Dr. Tracy Levy and Mary Nel (Melton).
He attended Georgia Tech, and just prior to graduation, he chose to enlist in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a radar technician and electronic technician. Trace later worked for a number of companies, retiring as a Field Service Engineer for Pepco, Washington, DC, after 18 years of dedicated service.
Trace married Marilyn Levy (née Shockley) on December 26, 1970, in Miami, FL.
He was known for his great sense of humor and fun-loving spirit. At the age of 12, he became the youngest licensed amateur radio (HAM) operator. When he lived in Florida, he was widely known by his radio handle, W4FRO. He was a proud member of The First-Class CW Operators’ Club (FOC). Trace enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, old movies, and had a deep love for all animals. He was especially passionate about trap-neuter-release programs and supported organizations that shared this mission.
In his younger years, Trace was a passionate advocate for civil rights. He marched in Selma with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and met John Lewis—an experience that left a lasting impact on him. His commitment to justice and community continued throughout his life. He remained politically active and served as City Council President in Fellsmere, Florida.
He is survived by his brother, Frank M. Levy, and wife Susan of North Fort Myers, FL, and their daughters Kristen and Kara; his brother-in-law Ron Shockley of Sun City, FL; nephew Steven, his wife Laura, and their son Benjamin of Seffner, FL. He is also survived by nieces: Robyn Pettit and her husband Jeff of Pocomoke, MD, and son, Josh; Lek Casserino of Portland, CT, and her daughters Elizabeth and Emily; Jennifer Shockley of TX; nephew Phillip Shockley of South Carolina, and Jamie Collins and her husband Ty Fletcher of Greenwood, DE.
A special thanks to neighbors Lee and Chris Weaber for their support and prayers. The family also sends special thanks to the First Responders who were so professional and caring.
