Timothy James McCarthy's Obituary
Timothy James McCarthy, age 71 of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on September 27, 2022, at his home. He was born on February 13, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in one of the city’s biggest snowstorms, son of the late Thomas and Jeanne McCarthy.
Tim was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the US Air Force, was a lifeguard at country clubs in both Ocean City, Maryland and Hollywood, Florida, and worked for NOAA. He attended Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland. Tim had many hobbies and interests. He had a gift for drawing and always had a sketch book, and in his younger days he coached many sports, did the Bike to the Beach from Wilmington to Rehoboth, completed the Marine Corp Marathon three times, and traveled the east coast completing triathlons. Tim loved all sports, especially baseball and the Green Bay Packers, of which he was an owner. His later years were given over to the dedicated care of his parents.
Tim was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians VFW, American Legion, and the Wisconsin State Society.
A great companion and friend to many, he will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia; 7 aunts; and 6 uncles. He is survived by his sister, Mary Aileen (Patrick) and his beloved nephews: Cormac and Ciaran.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 11:00 AM at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors will follow the services at 1:00 PM, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.Reception will follow burial at the American Legion, Post 5, 300 King Charles Ave, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
