Thornton G. Lynam's Obituary
Thornton G. Lynam, a resident of Cadbury in Lewes, Delaware passed away on Sunday March 27, 2011 at his home.
"Thorny" was born in Newport, Delaware on December 9, 1923 son of the late Margaret Fox Lynam and Hyland B. Lynam. His childhood was spent in Newport, and he attended school in Rehoboth Beach and Conrad High School. After high school Mr. Lynam served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was a graduate of Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland and was on the Varsity Wrestling Team. After graduation from college he worked a short time for the U.S. Health Department and then with the Film and Sponge Department of the E.I. duPont de Nemours & Co. in Wilmington, Delaware until his retirement. He was a past member of The DuPont Country Club and after retiring in Rehoboth became a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and was an avid bridge player. While living in Rehoboth he met his companion, Maggie Evans, whose company he enjoyed until her death.
Mr. Lynam was predeceased by three siblings and their spouses: Margaret "Bobby" Lynam Tindall (Walter L.); Eleanor Lynam Benoit (Frederick A.), and Hyland (Bill) B. Lynam (Marian Sylvanus) and his brother-in- law Robert B. McCurry Jr.
He is survived by a sister Jane Lynam McCurry and a brother Richard Fox Lynam Sr. and his wife Anne Toppin Lynam, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11:30 AM at St. James Cemetery, 2 South Augustine Street, Newport, DE. Friends may call on Sunday April 3, 2011 from 3-5 PM at the Parsell Funeral Home & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE.
