Phillip J. Sisson
My father’s name is George Upton Sisson. He was born November 9, 1910 in Greenwood, Mississippi and grew up in Winona, Mississippi in Montgomery County. It is not coincidental that my father and Thomas Upton Sisson share the same middle and last name given that neither are common names at least in the United States. I have been diligently researching my ancestry for over 17 years with only the oral narratives shared by my father to me since I was a teenager back in the 1960s. However, In 2009, at age sixty, I hit a major obstacle. It seems there are two ways of pronouncing the surname “Sisson” —- Sis-sun (British)and Sis-Sawn (French). I pronounce my surname in the French style. I’m curious how Thomas Upton Sisson, Sr and Jr pronounced the surname. It would be a great healing to learn how they pronounced their surname. Please advise. My email is [email protected].
Sincerely,
Phillip J. Sisson
