Thomas Michael Singel's Obituary
Thomas Michael Singel, age 84 of Lewes, DE, passed away after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at his home. He was born on January 21, 1939, in Franklin Borough, PA, son of the late Frank and Mary Singel.
Mr. Singel built a career as a systems engineer in aerospace engineering, lending his expertise to such institutions as Honeywell from 1964 until 1989 and Lockheed Martin, beginning in 1989 and from which he retired in 2002. He was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the US Air Force, from 1959 through 1963.
Always interested in his ancestry, Mr. Singel enjoyed researching genealogy. He was a member of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, a group sharing the history, language, genealogy, and culture of the Rusyn people, an Eastern Slavic people who lived for more than a thousand years in the foothills and valleys of the Carpathian Mountains of East Central Europe.
Mr. Singel was a family man. Above all, he cherished time spent with those he held most dear. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Loved by many, he will be forever missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Singel was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Weir and her husband, Jim. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Hummer) Singel of Lewes, DE; his children: Lauren Polensky (Josh) of Colmar, PA, Kristen Alwine (Bruce) of Merion Station, PA, Stacey Alderfer (Scott) of Macungie, PA, Scott Singel of Las Vegas, NV, and Amy McConlogue of Emmaus, PA; his former wife, Shirley Houser (Charlie) of Macungie, PA; his grandchildren: Lilly, Lena, Leo, Jack, Kailey, Hunter, Megan, Kevyn, and Cole; and his brothers: Frank Singel (Joann) of Mineral Point, PA and James Singel (Kathy) of Milton, DE; and the family dog Charlie
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors will follow the service at 1:00 PM, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
