Thomas N. Rider's Obituary
Thomas N. Rider, Jr. age 86 of Bridgeville, DE died Saturday December 24, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Glens Falls, NY on September 14, 1925, the son of Thomas N. Rider and Phyllis “Peabody” Rider. Tom earned his Eagle Scout Badge and graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1943. He then graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in the class of 1945. Then it was off to war in the U.S. Coast Guard’s Merchant Marine during WWII, traveling in a convoy in the Atlantic as a 3rd Engineer on the Liberty Ships. He continued his military service in the Naval Reserves and received an Honorable Discharge in 1961. Tom graduated from Clarkson University in 1950 with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He excelled in his career of 35 years with International Paper Company until his retirement in 1985.
He is survived by his wife Quita Rider, a son Thomas N. Rider III of Bow, New Hampshire; a daughter Barbara Hodgkins of Temple, Maine; step children Beatriz Botero of Cali, Colombia and Silvia Botero of Tampa, Florida; Jose Botero of Miami, Florida and German Botero of Orlando, Florida; one brother Robert F. Rider of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday December 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 532 Stein Highway, Seaford, DE where friends may call at the church beginning at 10:15 AM. Burial will follow services at Bridgeville Cemetery, Bridgeville, DE.
