Thomas Daniel McMahon's Obituary
Thomas McMahon, age 67 of Lewes, DE passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes surrounded by his loving family.
Tom was born and raised in New York City, NY. He was a New York City Police Officer. He had two children Laura and Scott. Tom was assigned to the 88 precinct where he fell in love with his beautiful wife, Cynthia, a fellow police officer. While living in Rockaway Queens, New York they started a family with a newborn son Thomas G. McMahon. Tom retired after 23 years of service becoming a highly respected and highly decorated police officer. Tom was well loved by his fellow officers and was admired for his bravery and yet humble attitude. Tom was beloved for his awesome sense of humor and usually the life of the party. Tom, Cindy and their son Tommy moved to Florida where their family blossomed and they were blessed with two more sons, Christopher and Terrance. The family moved to Lewes Delaware 20 years ago and the boys have grown into wonderful handsome young men.
Though Tom’s achievements are too numerous to list without exhaustion, Tom was also a beloved school bus driver for 25 years after the police force and was known as “Mr. Tom”. He was always loved by the children on his bus. He drove for Rehoboth Elementary for many years Bus #33 and Cape Henlopen High School. Tom had an avid love of fishing which started many years ago when he ran his own 28 foot shark fishing charter boat known as “Hook em’ up”. His love for fishing only grew when he joined the fly fishing club “The Salt Water Fly Anglers of Delaware” and not only experienced exciting fishing trips but also made lifelong friends. Tom is remembered as a devoted father, husband, brother and fisherman.
Tom is survived by his wife of 27 years Cindy; his 5 wonderful children: Laura, Scott, Tommy, Chris, and Terrance; his surviving siblings Patty McMahon, Dennis McMahon; his cousins Jody and Nicie and Mickey; his sisters in law Linda and Lynn; his brother in law Pat; his nephews Dennis, James, Tommy and Slade; and his nieces Jessica and Taylor; his beloved granddaughter Saya McMahon; and his daughter in-law Amy. He is proceeded in death by his father, Thomas W. McMahon and his Mother, Natalie McMahon; his brother, Jimmy McMahon; his nephew Brian McMahon; and his cousin Larry Freer.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE, where friends may visit beginning at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private.
