Thomas A Mathis' Obituary
Thomas A. Mathis, of Lewes, DE passed away at home with his loving wife and daughter by his side, Friday, October 4, 2013.
Mr. Mathis served his country proudly during World War II with the Merchant Marines. In his civilian life, Mr. Mathis enjoyed a 31 year career with the DuPont Company, Wilmington, DE where he worked in the International Department. He was a dedicated employee retiring in 1986.
Before his illness, Tom could be found on the golf course, where he had mastered 5 hole-in-ones over the years. He and his wife Carole enjoyed multiple trips internationally as well as domestic. During his lifetime Tom completed his travels through all fifty states. Tom was Past Master of the Granite Lodge #34; a member of The American Academy of Actuaries; a 50+ member of the DuPont Country Club and a member of the American Legion Post #28. Mr. Mathis was also a past member of the Shawnee Country Club in Milford, DE.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Carole; his sons: Thomas H. Mathis and wife Kelly; Richard J. Mathis and wife Jennifer both of Wilmington, NC; a daughter, Cynthia A. George and husband Anthony of Wilmington, DE; 2 grandchildren: Dalton J. Mathis and Alexandra N. George; 2 goddaughters: Jessica Kaufman and Abigale Jones and 1 sister Evelyn Parkinson of Sun City, AZ and his extended family (wife's step-children) Lynn Jarrell, Gale Jones and W. Scott Scheible and their families.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE where friends may call one hour prior to services.
Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank Delaware Hospice for their care and support. Memorial donations in Mr. Mathis's memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
