Susan Burris' Obituary
Susan Roland Burris, 80, of Lewes passed away peacefully Friday, November 28, 2025. Born in Viola, DE on October 20, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Mary Torbert Roland.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2010 by her husband, Robert Donnan Burris. She is survived by 3 children: Donnie (Amy) Burris, Robin (Darren) Shelburne, and Megan (Kahlib) Fischer. 14 Grandchildren: Davis, Carter, Maggie and Lewis Burris; Elly (Lane), Maddie (Steve) and Cici Shelburne; Seth, Annabelle, Wes, Luke, Clay, Brennan and Garrett Fischer. 1 Great Granddaughter: Mae Shelburne.
Susan was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy came from her faith, her family, and in finding ways to quietly go about serving and helping others. She was known for her cheerful spirit, her wonderful sense of humor, her deep kindness and her most often repeated phrase, “What can I do to help?”
Susan was a gifted musician and used those gifts for many years as a choir member and as the organist at Christian Tabernacle in Lincoln. She was also an active part of the Milford community, served on the Milford Hospital Auxiliary Board, and enjoyed helping to plan the annual hospital fair for many years. Susan was a faithful member of Bible Study Fellowship in Milford and had deep relationships with friends there. She was also greatly blessed in her later years to be part of the Berean Community Church family.
A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11AM, Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Berean Community Church, 2709 Milford Harrington Hwy., Milford, DE 19963, followed by a Funeral Service 11AM. There will be a private burial for the family immediately following the service.
