Steven John Barrow's Obituary
Steven John Barrow, 63, of Harbeson, Delaware, passed away on May 31, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Barbara Barrow and his sister Cynthia. Steven leaves behind his beloved wife, Susan, and cherished daughters Kristen, Megan and Allison, as well as Kristen’s wife Mandi and Megan’s fiance Thomas. He always had a full house where he welcomed many “bonus” children, including his Danish foreign-exchange student, Simone, and his many nieces and nephews. He was an admired “Papa” to his grandson Evan. He also leaves behind his siblings Kim, Jacqueline and Kurt.
After graduating from Bloomfield High School he served in the Navy on the USS Spruance for six years. He was a natural storyteller and found joy recounting his many vivid memories and adventures from sailing across the world. He took pride in being a Bloomfield Fire Captain and a life-long member of Pompton Plains Volunteer Fire Department. Upon retirement from the Bloomfield Fire Department, Steven and his family moved to Delaware where he worked for the City of Lewes for several years. He was currently serving as Commander at American Legion Post 17 in Lewes for the second time, where he had been an active member since moving to Delaware.
Service to others was a defining part of his life. Through his career as a firefighter, his commitment to volunteer firefighting and his dedication to the American Legion, he devoted his life to protecting, supporting and serving his community. The only thing more important to Steven than service to his community was his fierce devotion to his wife, children, extended family and friends. Steven had a deep love of nature, having spent his entire life making memories camping in Montauk, NY, which always held a special place in his heart. In retirement, he found great happiness and peace living by the water with his family.
