Stephen F. Hoenigmann's Obituary
Stephen “Steve” F. Hoenigmann, 56, of Millsboro, DE passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE. He was born August 17, 1953 in Aiken, SC, son of William F. Hoenigmann of West Grove, PA and the late June (Hoffman) Hoenigmann.
Mr. Hoenigmann graduated from Thomas McKean High School, Wilmington, DE in 1971 where he set many State swimming records. In 1973 he enlisted in the US Navy where he served on the USS Jesse L. Brown. In 1975 he moved to Millsboro where he start his career as a reporter and editor for the Sussex Post, Daily Whale, and Delaware Wave. More recently, he worked as an outdoors columnist and production editor for the Cape Gazette. Mr. Hoenigmann was a former member of the Millsboro YMCA Board and former member of the Millsboro Chamber of Commerce; he was an avid surf fisherman and golfer.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step mother Joella M. Hoenigmann. In addition to his father he is survived by his brother, Marty F. Hoenigmann of Chippewa Falls, WI; nieces and nephew: Christine Hoenigmann of Newark, DE, David Hoenigmann of Eau Claire, WI, and Michelle Gayheart of Delaware City, DE; and stepsisters: Catherine Holter of Liberty, PA, Margaret Calvert of Hollidaysburg, PA, and Barbara Maguire of Wausau, WI.
All services will be private with Entombment at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to Delaware SPCA, Sussex County Shelter, 22918 Dupont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
