Stanley W. Jachym's Obituary
Stanley W. Jachym, age 83 of Lewes, DE, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes. He was born Monday, May 28, 1934 in Newark, NJ, son of the late Michael and Sophie Jachym.
Mr. Jachym attended St. Casimir's Grammar School and East Side High School. Upon graduation, he started working, but was drafted into the US Army in 1954. After completing basic training, he spent the following 21 months stationed in Germany. Mr. Jachym earned his Bachelor of Business degree from Seton Hall University, attending evening classes while working for Western Electric Co., a subsidiary of AT&T. He started in the shop environment and as he attended college, was transferred into an accounting position. Mr. Jachym went on to hold senior management positions in Western and subsequently, AT&T. He retired from AT&T in 1989 with a total of 38 years of dedicated service. While working, Mr. Jachym held numerous volunteer positions in auditing, as well as accounting organizations outside of his functional responsibilities at work. He also held positions in various auditing and accounting organizations with Western and AT&T. His last assignment was in Allentown, PA, and he retired while at that location. Soon after retirement, he became involved with one of the largest credit unions in PA as a director for several years. Mr. Jachym was involved with the restructuring of this credit union, from one that was principally associated with Western Electric, to one that became a community financial institution.
In 1999, Mr. Jachym and his wife, Mary Ann, moved to Lewes, DE and have enjoyed the area immensly.
Mr. Jachym was an avid baseball and football fan. He was very proud of meeting players from the old Brooklyn Dodgers. This was a result of one of the Dodgers ball players living in his Newark, NJ neighborhood. Mr. Jachym remained a loyal Dodger fan throughout the years, eventually visiting Dodger Stadium with Mary Ann and taking in a few games. They visitied almost all of the major league ballparks between 1990-1991. Their intention was to visit all of them, but with so many teams building new ballparks at that time, their dream was never realized.
Above all, Mr. Jachym was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who cherished time spent with his family. He will be genuinely missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jachym was preceded in death by his sisters: Wanda Nasiatka and Cecilia (Sr. Mary Paulette of the Felician order). He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Mary Ann Sciandra-Jachym of Lewes, DE; his children: Christina Pacia of Kenilworth, NJ, Gregory Jachym of Barcelona, Spain, Paula Menoni of Mountainside, NJ, and Vincent Sciandra of Denver, CO; and his six grandchildren: Cynthia Clark, Jordan Sciandra, Raymond Menoni, Rocco Menoni, Nicolas Jachym, and Ian Jachym.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes; DE, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE.
