Shirley Ann Thompson, age 73, of Lewes, DE, and Winter Haven, FL, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at her surrounded by her loved ones. She was born January 1, 1935 in Winter Haven, FL, daughter of the late George F. and Fannie D. (McCullough) Thompson.
Ms. Thompson was a 1953 graduate of Manatee High School in Bradenton, FL. She retired from the IBM Corporation, Bethesda, MD, as an Administrative Systems Manager in 1990 after 25 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Clyde Brown and Madaline Austin; and a brother Roderick D. Thompson. She is survived by her a sister, Sarah Ellen Beaty of Barwick, GA; two brothers, James Alexander Thompson of Casselberry, FL and Jack Thompson of Winter Haven, FL; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Thompson of Orlando, FL and her long-time companion Judith A. Derenberger of Lewes.
A Catholic Prayer Service by Father Peter Puntal of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, will be held Monday, April 21, 11 AM at the Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 645 West Central Avenue, Winter Haven, FL where friends may call beginning at 9 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeside Memorial Park, Winter Haven, FL. Delaware arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriot's Way, Milford, DE 19963.
