Shirley Jean Otroba's Obituary

Shirley Jean Otroba, age 91 of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. She was born on April 30, 1929 in Boston, PA, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Mauerer) Abercrombie.
Shirley was a graduate of McKeesport High School, Class of 1947 in McKeesport, PA. Following high school, she went to work for Royal D Dairy as a bookkeeper. In 1974, Shirley and her husband John relocated to Rochester, New York. Over the next several years, the couple moved to Fredericksburg, VA, Van Wert, OH, and Naperville, IL. In 1991, John was offered early retirement, bringing them to their final destination of Lewes. Shirley’s interests were many and varied. She especially loved cooking and baking for family and friends. She was a faithful member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes. Above all, Shirley cherished time with those she held most dear. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Shirley is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, John Otroba; her sons: John M. Otroba (MaryLou), and Robert G Otroba; her daughter, Susan A Otroba; her grandson, Ryan Otroba (Bethany); and her granddaughters: Allison Otroba (Ali Esmailzada), and Caroline Otroba.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 11:30 AM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE., where friends and family may visit beginning at 10:30 AM. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and masks are required at the funeral home. Shirley will be privately interred at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Shirley's memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
