Shirley Anne Lancaster's Obituary
Shirley Anne Lancaster, age 80, of Georgetown, DE passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at State Street Assisted Living in Dover, DE. She was born in Hallwood, VA on February 1, 1935, daughter of the late Roy and Sadie (Lewis) Phillips.
Mrs. Lancaster was a graduate of Smyrna High School in Smyrna. She attended the nursing program at Beebe School of Nursing for two years. While attending the nursing school, she met the love of her life, Richard, who was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard in Lewes. Together they settled in Georgetown where they raised their family. For many years, Mrs. Lancaster worked with her husband at their family's business, Pewter by Lancaster.
Mrs. Lancaster enjoyed volunteering for several years at the American Legion Ambulance Services in Georgetown and the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. with her two daughters, Roxanne and Sandra. During her leisure time, she loved solving puzzles, playing cards with her girlfriends and most of all spending time with her grandchildren who were the apples of her eyes. Mrs. Lancaster was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a dear friend to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lancaster was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lancaster in 1994 and a daughter, Dawn Lynn Lancaster in 1959. She is survived by her two daughters: Roxanne Masche and her husband Bill of Felton, DE, Sandra Bennett and her husband Wayne of Roxana, DE; three grandsons: Scott Masche and his wife Michelle of Milton, DE, Michael Masche and his wife Heather of Felton, DE and Brian Bennett of Roxana, DE; a granddaughter, Angela Brumbley and her husband Kevin of Laurel, DE; two great-grandsons: Ian Masche and Bennett Brumbley ; three great-granddaughters: Izzy Wilson , Morgan Brumbley, and Kayla Bennett
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 11:00 AM, at St. Michael the Archangel, 202 Edward Street, Georgetown, DE 19947, where friends may call beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the services at Union Cemetery, Adams & Race Street, Georgetown, DE.
