Sharon Collins Corriero's Obituary
Sharon Collins Corriero, 85, recently of Lewes, Delaware, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Beebe Healthcare. Sharon was born on June 10, 1939, in Silver Creek, NY, the daughter of Howard and Florence Collins.
Sharon graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1957 and went on to earn her teaching degree from SUNY Brockport. After graduating from college, Sharon moved to Long Beach, Long Island, NY, where she met Guido (“Guy”) Salvatore Corriero. The seemingly improbable match turned into a striking couple, and they were married in August 1964.
After starting their lives in Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island, Guy and Sharon relocated to the Mohawk Valley in Central New York. They lived a happy life raising their children, Ted, Tim and Amanda, in the town of Ilion.
A teacher at heart, she took a job teaching in Remington Elementary School, where she left a lasting impact on many students, who often spoke of the way ‘Mrs C’ influenced their love of learning. Sharon especially treasured the lifelong friendships she formed with many of her colleagues.
After the children left home, and they had both retired, Sharon and Guy enjoyed travel and winter escapes. Their destinations ranged from their condo in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, to California, where they were able to visit both of their sons, and with Sharon taking particular joy in walking Zoey, Tim’s golden retriever.
One thing Sharon excelled at was insisting on family reunions every summer. Her family loved and enjoyed this, notwithstanding the request to wear coordinated color T-shirts from Walmart for the group photos.
Guy and Sharon ultimately choose to move from Ilion and retire to Portland, Maine. For nearly 15 years, they lived at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac (which the grandkids dubbed “circletown”) and were thrilled when their daughter Amanda and her husband Matt bought a vacation home nearby. This led to many summers spent close to family, with Amanda and Matt providing a welcome new location for family reunions; the family now being forced to wear ‘Maine’ t-shirts.
When the challenges of aging grew, Sharon and Guy moved to The Lodge in Lewes, Delaware, to be near their son Ted and his family, who recently relocated. There she found a new, supportive community, and she spent her last days in the company of her husband of 60 years, Guy, to whom she was fiercely devoted and for whom she cared until the very end.
Sharon had a quiet elegance - always composed, effortlessly graceful, and with just the right touch of spunk. It showed in her flowing skirts, choice of accessories, and the low-slung, tail-finned Toyota Celica she zipped around in. She found deep joy in life’s simple pleasures— listening to music, solving crossword puzzles, reading the local paper, clipping coupons, and unwinding with a glass of red wine at the end of the day. A passionate reader, her vast knowledge reflected her love for books and libraries.
She leaves behind her husband, Guy; their three children: Ted (Patricia), Tim (Kate), and Amanda (Matt), two stepchildren: Guy (Ana) and Gina (John); seven grandchildren: Lucas, Aidan, Audrey, Lexi, Sofia, Ava and Maddy and six step grandchildren (Alejandro, Belen, Katie, Joseph, Christopher and Andrew). Sharon is also survived by her siblings, Beverly Collins and John Collins (Judy); her niece, Heather Galloway; nephews Matthew and Joshua Collins; and many friends.
The world was lucky to have Sharon Corriero in it. Those in her family were truly blessed to call her a daughter, a sister, a mother, and a wife. We trust and know that her spirit remains with us all, and we’ll be sure to pour her a glass of red wine at all the upcoming future family gatherings. Sharon, we love you and always will.
