Sharie Anne Sober's Obituary
Sharie Anne Sober (Kirsch) died unexpectedly on June 18, 2025, at her home in Slaughter Beach, DE.
Born May 18, 1961, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, her family relocated to Vienna, VA, in 1975. She attended George C. Marshall High School and was a proud graduate of James Madison University. She was a dedicated and respected businesswoman with decades of experience selling and delivering software solutions and technology consulting services to federal, state, and local government clients.
After a 20-year tenure with a global technology consulting firm, she took on a new challenge with a startup focused on combating fraud in government subsidy programs. After the successful sale of the company, she intended to retire—but that lasted a scant six months, after which she teamed with a former business partner to co-found another startup developing a fraud solution for both public and private sectors.
Sharie brought her considerable business acumen to the volunteer sector. She supported JMU through fundraising for a scholarship benefiting young women pursuing higher education, taught segments of a consulting class in JMU’s business school, and volunteered at a clinic helping individuals apply for Social Security benefits.
Sharie lived her best life on her own terms. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of living on the water, designing and building a home on Slaughter Beach. She had the best laugh, cooked like a five-star chef, could debate anyone brilliantly, and could fix, build, or sew anything. She was fiercely loyal, incredibly generous, and devoted to those she cared about. She was fearless in pursuit of adventure—diving the Blue Hole in Belize among sharks, scaling Half Dome in Yosemite, or skydiving to support her dying friend’s last wish. Her travels took her all over the world, including numerous biking trips through Europe and sailing trips in the Caribbean and the South Pacific.
Sharie was preceded in death by her father, Peter Kirsch. She leaves behind her husband of 27 years, Jim Sober—whom she’d known since high school—her mother, Jeanne, and stepfather, Dave Moore; siblings Trina Ricketts (Mike), Pete Kirsch (Patty), and Paula Rezza (Jeff); mother-in-law, Patricia Sober; sister-in-law, Kim Sober Parry; brother-in-law, Chadd Sober; ten nieces and nephews; her beloved dogs, Molly and Piper; and countless loving friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 31st, from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant, 213 Anglers Road, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sharie’s name to two of her many passions—animals and the ocean: https://www.aspca.org or https://www.oceana.org.
