Satyavathi Peri's Obituary
Satyavathi Peri of Lewes, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec 24, 2009. She was 75 years old. Mrs. Peri was born on October 24, 1934 in Chennai, India, to the late Satyanarayana Docca and Subhadra (Ayyagari) Docca. Throughout her life, she was a faithful devotee of Lord Krishna.
She was determined to fulfill a lifelong dream and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from Karnataka University, India, in 1971 by which time she was already a mother to six children. She not only took care of her own children but was a mother to all her nieces and nephews as well. At one point, she had sixteen children under her care. She took great pride in being a mother and a homemaker ~ her doors were open to everyone.
In 1987, Mrs. Peri immigrated to the United States and eventually settled in Lewes, DE. During this next phase of her life she enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren and adjusted to her new life with enthusiasm. She was very accommodating and never had any complaints about anything. She enjoyed cooking, needle work, quilting (she was an active participant in the Quilt Club of Lewes), travelling and even took piano lessons along with her grandchildren. She loved music and had a beautiful singing voice, admired by all who knew her. Besides English, she could speak several Indian languages ~ Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi and Kannada.
She was a woman who lived by values of sacrifice, patience and compassion. While in India, she was a supporter of The Divine Providence School, a Christian orphanage school in India mainly for girls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Veerabhadra Rao Peri and two brothers ~ Brigadier S.N. Docca and Raghava Docca. She is survived by her sons Hari Peri and wife Rama of Lewes, DE; Satya Peri and wife Aruna of San Jose, CA; Raghu Peri and his wife Vardhani of Mount Laurel, NJ; Kamalakar Peri and wife Lakshmi of Edison, NJ and her daughters Jayalaxmi Devulapalli and her husband Krishnamohan of Newark, DE; Nagalaxmi Jarugumilli and her husband (deceased) Prasad of Newark, DE; and Subbalaxmi Vangala and her husband Prasad; her sister-in-laws Amba Docca and Kamala Docca, both residing in Hyderabad, India. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Gautam, Sarada, Swetha (and her husband Bhaskar), Neeru, Chaitu, Anand, Harsha, Kiran, Teju, Neelu, Apoorva, Neha and Sidharth.
Hindu Vedic services were held on December 26, 2009 at Parsell Funeral Home, Lewes, DE.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all the staff at Renaissance Healthcare and Delaware Hospice for their loving care of their mother and grandmother.
