Sarah "Sally" E. Cunningham's Obituary
Sarah "Sally" Elizabeth Cunningham, 82, of Lewes, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 3, 2010; she passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Sally was born February 13, 1928 in Lewes, daughter of the late Paul F. Carpenter and Lillian G. (Hastings) Carpenter.
Sally and her husband of 65 years, Phillip I. Cunningham, raised seven children in Lewes. She was a day care provider for a number of years and then worked as an Activity Aide at the Lewes Convalescent Center and Harbor Healthcare. Sally loved to shop with her daughters and was affectionately called "Mom Mom." She spent her life caring for her children, 18 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. She loved buying gifts for everyone; enjoyed playing bridge with her friends; always had a big smile for everyone; and always put herself last. Her best times, however, were the many gatherings held over the years when Sally cared for her large family.
The family would like to recognize and give a special note of thanks to Sally's special friends and caregivers who provided such loving care during her final days: former daughter-in-law, Bonnie Cunningham, Linda Reibsome, Linda Lekites, Mickey Baker, and all the nurses and staff at Compassionate Care Hospice.
Mrs. Cunningham is survived by her husband Phillip I. Cunningham; six children: Michael I. Cunningham and his wife Beverly of Lewes, P. Rodney Cunningham and his wife Carolyn of Boca Raton, FL, Paul C. Cunningham and his wife Doris of Lewes, Sally C. Hrycyk and her husband John of Boca Raton, FL, John R. Cunningham and his wife Cindy of Lewes, Carol C Brown and her husband Gerry of Milford, DE, and son-in-law Rick Kidd of Millsboro, DE; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Cunningham Kidd and her sister Grace C. Evans.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 11:00 AM, at Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE with Pastor Harry Hughes officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Lewes Presbyterian Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lewes Presbyterian Church, 133 Kings Highway, DE 19958 or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 31038 Country Gardens Blvd. , Suite D, Dagsboro, DE 19939.
