Samuel J. Young, Jr.'s Obituary
Samuel "Sam" J. Young, Jr., age 87, of Selbyville, DE, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Brandywine Assisted Living at Fenwick Island in Selbyville, DE. He was born in Linthicum, MD on June 8, 1928, son of the late Samuel J. Young, Sr. and Emma (Ebert) Young.
Sam was raised in Linthicum MD, where he graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1945. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from May of 1951 to April of 1953. After his honorable discharge, Sam married the love of his life, Anne Griffiths, in 1953. Together they moved to Dundalk, MD in 1956 where they raised their family. Here Sam became a longtime President of the West Inverness Recreation Council and briefly served as President of the West Inverness Elementary School PTA.
In 1979, the family moved to Dale City, VA and in 1993 they retired to Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Sam spent his entire working career in the food service industry starting with HJ Heinz and ultimately retiring from LeGout Foods after 40 dedicated years.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Griffiths Young. He is survived by his five children: Joan Y. Hoffman (Don) of Eldersburg, MD, John G. Young (Deborah) of Ocean Pines, MD, Thomas J. Young of Ocean Pines, MD, James W. Young (Cindi) of Fallston, MD and Matthew J. Young (Heather) of Ranson, WV; eight grandchildren: Timothy Young, Abigail Hoffman, Tyler Young, Benjamin Hoffman, Garratt Young, Austin Young, Wyatt Young and Cooper Young; and a great-grandson, Samuel Young.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015, at 12:00 PM, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, 34874 Atlantic Avenue, Ocean View, DE 19970, where friends may call beginning at 11:00 AM.
Friends may also call at the funeral home on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Burial will follow the Services at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
