Samuel Raymond Layton Sr.'s Obituary
Samuel Raymond Layton Sr., age 80, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 21, 1944, to George P. and Florence P. Layton, Sam was raised in New Castle, Delaware. He built a life centered on hard work, family, and simple joys. Sam worked for many years as a superintendent at Frank Robino & Sons Construction, where he was respected for his dedication and leadership. He adored his beloved dogs, Patches and Pockets, and he found great enjoyment in watching the birds and the squirrels.
In his younger years, he loved spending time outdoors—crabbing, fishing, and vacationing at the beach. He enjoyed quiet moments at home tending to his flowerbeds, watching country music videos and YouTube, and relaxing with puzzle books. He also cherished time spent playing cards with his neighbors, creating memories filled with laughter.
Samuel was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ella E. Layton; his brothers, Harmon, Thomas, Charles , George Jr., and James Layton; his sisters, Betty Hakens and Helen Myers; and his grandchildren, Samantha Mlynarski and Dale Jackson.
He is survived by his sister, Kathy Neamand; many nieces and nephews; his children, Laura Mlynarski (Joe), Samuel Layton Jr. (Denita), and Scott Layton; his stepchildren, Donna Christopher, Patty Jackson, and Ryan Jackson; six grandchildren, Chuck, Melissa, Jessica, Morgan, Lily, and Dylan; nine great-grandchildren, Skyy, Mccailee, Ella, Tony, Gabe, Jacob, Ryan, Chris, and Lila; and one great-great-grandchild, Roman.
Samuel's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and the enduring bonds of family.
